Surfer might be an odd name for a dog smack in the middle of the desert, but the principles of hanging loose are universal, brah! Surfer is riding the waves of life until he finds his forever home. And as a pup on the Urgent Placement list, Surfer would like to find that home sooner rather than later.
This active young dude is smart as a whip and has lots of energy to catch not only waves, but all the adventures of life. Surfer would love to walk, run, or hike along side you and is looking for a "go everywhere" type of adventure buddy.
Surfer has picked up on commands in the shelter quickly, such as sit, paw, and down, but sometimes dogs that are this smart suffer more than others in a shelter environment. That sort of shelter decline is hard on a dog, especially the sensitive and intelligent ones. Surfer would benefit greatly from an understanding, patient home that would give him time to decompress so he can put his best paw forward before trying to break out his long board.
Surfer has shared his kennel in the past, and has been social and playful when meeting other dogs in playgroup. However, after such a long stay in the shelter, this is where that time to decompress would be best before fully integrating with the other dogs in a home. He can play pretty rowdy and doesn't always know how to press that pause button, so he'd like to meet any resident dogs to make sure it's a good match. Dogs all have different play styles, and making sure you get along with your new potential roommate is important!
